QUICKVIEW: Late last year, San Francisco-based private equity firm Elevation Partners acquired 2.5 million shares in Facebook, representing a 0.5% stake, from a private investor for $90 million. Elevation increased its ownership in the social media company in June, acquiring an additional 5 million shares (1.0% stake) from a private investor for $120 million. These two secondary market events imply Facebook carried an enterprise value of Continue reading What is Facebook Worth?

QUICKVIEW: The results are in, and there’s little room for debate. With a commanding 78% of the votes, logo #1 (shown at the left) was selected by you, our readers and contributors, as the new NBV logo. (For reference, the logo with the second-highest number of votes was #5 with 11% overall.) While it didn’t quite have the thrills or suspense of an American Idol finale, we were encouraged by the feedback and participation – so thanks for taking the time to vote and give us your thoughts. We will be transitioning to the new logo and updating some other parts of the site over the next few days. Stay tuned!

Now we’re asking our readers to help us judge the results. Continue reading Vote for a New Logo!

FEATURE: Crossing the chasm from early adopters to the mainstream market poses significant problems for emerging social networking companies like foursquare. For those NBV readers who may not be up on the latest and greatest in social media: foursquare is a location-based social networking website and application for mobile devices (think Twitter with GPS). Users “check-in” at venues using a mobile app, and can also view where others in their network have recently checked-in. Continue reading Foursquare’s Growth Dilemma

QUICKVIEW: I love my iPad. I’ve had it for less than 72 hours, but already it’s become disruptive to my everyday routine. Traditionally, the first thing I did when I woke up was look at email on my blackberry, then head over to my laptop to check the WSJ, Twitter, Google Reader, Hacker News, Facebook and ESPN, usually in that order. Where I used to do all of this on my laptop, I now do it all on my iPad. Continue reading The iPad Will Transform Online Conversations
